Advanced Computer Applications - Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist (MCAS)
Introduction
This course is designed for those who want to acquire the skills to use computer applications at an advanced level, to understand the workings of the Vista Operating System and the basic concepts of web design and the Internet. Learners who successfully complete this course will be certified proficient in the Microsoft Office 2007 system and Windows Vista.

There are many career opportunities for those with advanced IT skills. The Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist (MCAS) qualification is an excellent addition to enhance other qualification such as the JEB/EDI Teacher Training Diploma.

- The Digital Creator award offered by Senior College Dun Laoghaire and accredited by the Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Dun Laoghaire (IADT) comprises 100 hours class contact. Classes are scheduled in a 3 hour block one morning per week.
Assessment and Certification
- This course is certified by the Microsoft IT Academy and FETAC.
- Learners who successfully achieve all the Microsoft Certificates and have a relevant training certificate such as the JEB/EDI Teacher Training Diploma can apply to become a Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist (MCAS) Instructor.

Graduates may opt for further training from the Microsoft IT Academy.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must have a prior IT computing qualification, such as a FETAC, ECDL, City & Guilds eQuals Level 1 or Level 2 qualification or have relevant IT work experience.
Mature Students (including VTOS and BTEA)
Applicants without formal qualifications will be considered on the basis of experience and overall demonstrable ability.
All applicants will have an advisory meeting to offer guidance and to ensure course suitability.
Fees
There are no tuition fees for EU students. At course commencement, students are required to pay for books, exams, a College registration fee and where applicable professional body registration fees.
