A Wide Range of Courses
- 51 courses in 18 different disciplines, offering relevant employable skills.
- Small intimate teaching groups and, therefore, more contact between learners and tutors.
- Some courses are timetabled in mornings or afternoons only to suit those with commitments.
Affordable Fees
- There are no tuition fees for EU nationals.
- Non EU nationals are charged a tuition fee determined by the Irish Government.
- All learners pay a course deposit, a College registration charge and other costs such as books, exams, course materials etc.
- SCD learners are entitled to claim Third Level Maintenance Grants (means tested).
- For those on Social Welfare there is the opportunity to return to full-time education and training while retaining those Social Welfare Entitlements (VTOS and Back to Education Grants).
- Support for learners with disabilities and specific learning difficulties is provided.
Teaching and Learning
- Staff make the best use of instructor-led tuition, practical skills classes, field trips and tutorials.
- Work Experience is a core module on some courses.
- The elearning platform, Moodle, is used to provide learners with an online learning resource.
- Continuous assessment is an integral part of most courses.
Staffing
- Staff are chosen for their qualifications, experience, enthusiasm and commitment to continuous professional development.
- Department Heads have overall responsibility for the running of their department and are available for advise and guidance.
- Course Coordinators are assigned to each class group and focus special attention on learners overall progress.
- Subject Tutors are responsible for subject issues, advise on learning styles and assessment techniques.
Support & Guidance
- A free and confidential Guidance and Career Counselling service is available to support learners.
- Advice and social supports for those making the transition back to study is also available.
Career Advice
- Senior College Dun Laoghaire (SCD) has strong links with industry and places special emphasis on preparing graduates for employment.
- Each Department organises career focused events, designed to expose learners to the different types of career options.
- The Job Placement Officer is pro-active in developing links with employers.
- Job vacancies are displaced on career noticeboards and on the College Intranet.
Students Union
- The Union proactively works to represent the voice of learners and to develop social and sport activities to include: Football Team, College Ball, Charity Events, Discos, and many more...
