Nail Technician and Salon Administrator
Introduction
This one year course will provide students with the skills, knowledge and professional qualifications to work as a Nail Technician and/or Salon Administrator. There is also an emphasis on practical selling, information technology and customer service skills. These business skills will assist a graduate who would like to be self-employed.

Course Structure
Students will cover all the areas needed to work as a nail technician including anatomy of the hand and skin, manicure and pedicure, health and hygiene, salon procedures, product knowledge, cosmetic science, consultation and contra-indications and nail extension systems. There is also an emphasis on practical selling, information technology skills and customer service skills.

Work experience is a mandatory part of the course. Students are required to undertake a minimum of 10 days work experience which offers students the opportunity to further develop their skills and gain an understanding of the workplace.

Assessment and Certification
- The Diploma in Nail Technician is certified by the Confederation of International Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (CIBTAC). Exams take place in April and May. CIBTAC applies a rigid set of standards governing attendance, learning and examinations.
- This course is certified by FETAC. On successful completion of the course, students are awarded a FETAC Level 5 Award in Business Studies (BBSXX) and Nail Treatments.
- The Salon Management Software (Memento) is certified by Phorest.
- Students are required to submit a number of assessments throughout the year in addition to final exams.

Entry Requirements
Year 1
Five passes on ordinary level papers (grade D or better). Alternative equivalent qualifications may be accepted.
Leaving Certificate Applied
LCA applicants with suitable levels of achievement will be accepted. Applicants should submit details
of achievements.
Mature Students (including VTOS and BTEA)
Applicants without these entry requirements will be considered on the basis of age, experience and overall demonstrable ability.
There is high demand for places and early application is advised. Applications will be processed strictly in order of receipt.
All applicants will have an advisory meeting to offer guidance and to ensure course suitability.
Fees
- There are no tuition fees for EU students. At course commencement, students are required to pay for books, exams, a College registration fee and where applicable professional body registration fees.
- Students will be required to purchase certain items including a uniform and a product kit.
