Multimedia Courses
Introduction
A career in Interactive Multimedia is for creative people who enjoy working with the latest digital technologies. Our Interactive Multimedia courses equip students with an understanding of the tools and technologies used for developing multimedia products for all types of digital media. Skills are taught in areas such as web design, computer graphics, digital imaging, animation, 3D, Content management system (CMS) design and development, web programming, digital video and audio and desktop publishing.
Students have access to the latest computer equipment and software. All interactive multimedia students have access to the Adobe CS5 Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesign, Acrobat and Dreamweaver. also available Soundbooth, Premiere Pro and 3D Studio Max and more are also available.
Students will benefit from a combination of demonstrations, practical workshops, competency assignments and multimedia/web authoring projects. Our tutors give students the individual practical time needed to grasp the ever-increasing skill set required to work with and understand the many programs, techniques and skills used in the creation of multimedia projects. Students are not required to have practical experience before coming on the course but should enjoy working with computers.
All Interactive Multimedia courses are certified by the Institute of Commercial Management (ICM), which is an international examining body.

Structure of the Interactive Multimedia Courses
Year 1: Certificate in Interactive Multimedia
The first year is suitable for students who enjoy computers and the web. Students will gain strong practical experience and knowledge in all the main areas of Digital Media such as web design, digital imaging, graphic design, animation and desk top publishing.
Year 2: Diploma in Interactive Multimedia
The Diploma builds on the skills acquired in the first year and develops further expertise in other areas, for example, building databases for websites. Other core elements of the diploma course are web programming, flash development and Audio and Video production.
Year 3: Advanced Diploma in Interactive Multimedia
The Advanced Diploma in Interactive Multimedia builds on the skills learnt in earlier years, advancing the student's expertise in Interactive Multimedia through a self-directed major project and portfolio design. A new exciting element added to this course is Content Management Systems (PHP and MySQL) using Joomla.
Students exhibit their major project at an end of year exhibition.
Graduate Diploma in Interactive Multimedia & Web Development
The Graduate Diploma course is a one year only course (available full time and as a mornings only option.) This course is ideal for those who wish to gain a strong understanding of digital media but who don't have the luxury of time on their hands. This course appeals to many: graduates, those who have been working and wish to re-skill and those who wish to update their existing skills.
Further Educational Opportunities
Advanced Diploma graduates who achieve an overall credit may apply for direct entry into the final year of the BSc (Hons) Multimedia or the BA (Hons) Interactive Digital Media at Swansea Metropolitan University.
Diploma and Graduate Diploma graduates may apply for direct entry into Year 2 of the BSc [Ord] Computing in Multimedia Programming awarded by HETAC at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT), Dún Laoghaire.
