SCD’s 2007/2008 Graduation Ceremony took place on Friday 28th November 2008 in the O’Reilly Hall UCD. Over 220 graduates received their qualifications.
The Graduation was attended by the Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Mary Hanafin who presented certificates. Other guests included the Chairperson of Dun Laoghaire VEC, Donal Marren, The CEO of Dun Laoghaire VEC, Carol Hanney and The Chairperson of the College’s Board of Management Aine Elliott, and members of the Board of Management.
Every year SCD honours a graduate who has excelled in their field with a Special Achievement Award. This year that award went to Melanie Sharkey, Landscape Design 2001-2003. Melanie was the first SCD student to complete her degree in the University of Gloustershire. She is currently working on the landscaping of the Dublin Metro North line and has worked in the past on the Battle of the Boyne site.
Fr Peter McVerry received the SCD Honorary Graduate award for his community service.
SCD also honoured the following Graduates who achieved National success:
- IATI exams, Monika Bialek 1st, Xi Na 5th, and Jekaterina Ivanova 6th place.
- IPAV Graduate, John Garrett, who achieved the highest overall grades in exams.
- Landscape Design Students who won the silver Awards in bloom Jane Fitzgerald, Morag Kelly and Svajune Vaiciuleviciute.
- IBPA Make-up Artistry competition 2008 winner Lisa Thompson.
