Design Department Students Visit Germany

(14 Apr 2010)

This year's European study tour for interior, landscape and garden design students took place in Berlin, Germany's dynamic and historically rich capital.  Thirty design students departed for the five tour on Monday 22 March, accompanied by tutors, Barry Lupton, Gillian Sherrard and Patricia Tyrrell.

Highlights of the tour included a visit to the Jewish museum, which was designed by world-renowned architect, Daniel Libeskind, a visit to museum island and in particular, the Pergamon museum, which houses original-sized, reconstructed monumental buildings such as the Pergamon Altar and the Market Gate of Miletus, and a visit to Berlin’s 368 metre tall TV tower!

Students also visited the famous town of Potsdam. Interior design students took a guided tour of the awe inspiring Sanssoucsi Palace while the landscape and garden group hired bikes and toured the palace grounds before biking to nearby Buga park.

This year’s tour was a resounding success; from educational, cultural, social, historical and personal development perspectives, it was an extremely enriching experience.
