The Interior Designer, working to the client's specification creates 3 dimensional spaces, enriching them with an in-depth knowledge of lighting, colour, materials, space planning and construction details. The work involves conceptual design, presentation drawings, materials specification, lighting and furniture presentations, overseeing site construction, and contract implementation. Computer Aided Design (CAD) has become an essential tool in the process.

Interior Design Programme Structure
SCD provides two Interior Design courses:
- Certificate in Interior Design FETAC Level 5
- BTEC/EDEXCEL Higher National Diploma in Interior Design – year 2 and 3.
Course Structure
The Diploma course provides the graduate with sufficient basic skills in the essential elements of Interior Design to undertake small commissions. Studio projects are continually assessed in order to develop design skills, critical faculty and presentation skills. In addition to design, participants are introduced to the fundamentals of Information Technology and Computer Aided Design (CAD). Successful completion of the course leads to a Certificate in Interior Design FETAC Level 5.

Assessment and Certification
- Assessment is based on assignments and projects submitted during the year.
- Learners msut pass all 8 modules to be awarded a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Interior Design (AIDXX)*. (www.fetac.ie) *subject to change
Entry Requirements
Five passes at ordinary level (grade D or better)
Applicants should submit details of achievements.
Mature Students (including VTOS and BTEA)
Applicants without formal qualifications will be considered on the basis of
experience and overall demonstrable ability.
All applicants will have a personal advisory meeting to offer guidance and to ensure course suitability.Applicants will also be advised on course costs and registration details.
It is not a requirement to bring a portfolio, however, a portfolio can be made up of a variety of work that reflects the applicant’s drawings, paintings, photographs of interior schemes completed or any work that shows a keen interest in design.
Fees
There are no tuition fees for EU students. At course commencement, students are required to pay for books, exams, €200 PLC Government Levy (unless exempt), a Student Services fee and where applicable professional body registration fees.
Students will be required to purchase certain items, such as drawing equipment.
