Introduction
The Certificate in Interactive Multimedia is suitable for students who enjoy computers and the web. Students will gain practical experience and knowledge in all the main areas of Digital Media such as web design, digital imaging, graphic design, animation and desk top publishing.
Career Opportunities
SCD, through the use of up-to-date software and computers, provide students with the practical and technical knowledge necessary to create websites and interactive media products. A ‘hands on’ training/learning approach is used for all subjects.
The course is modelled on the working environment, requiring students to create various interactive multimedia products to a given specification within a specific time frame. This prepares and equips students for a smooth transition into industry. Job opportunities are often found in specialist interactive multimedia and web design companies. There is also a range of exciting opportunities available in areas such as advertising, publishing, telecommunications, education and training, television and gaming.
Course Structure
The course is structured so that the student will develop expertise in two related areas: Interactive Multimedia and Web Design.

Students spend considerable time in excess of timetabled hours on research, study and project work.

Assessment and Certification
The course is certified by the Institute of Commercial Management (ICM), which is an international examining body. ICM membership registration and examination fees are payable in January.
Assessment is based on assignments and projects submitted during the year.
Repeats, will, at the College’s discretion, be facilitated in the next academic year.
Progression
Education/Training
Students can progress to the Diploma in Interactive Multimedia in SCD.
Career
Certificate Graduates can seek entry-level employment in the Interactive Media and the IT industry.
Entry Requirements
Five passes, including English, on ordinary level papers.
Leaving Certificate Applied and Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme
Applicants should submit details of achievements.
Mature Students (including VTOS and BTEA)
Applicants without the required Leaving Certificate requirements will be considered on the basis of age, experience, overall ability and aptitude.
All applicants will have an advisory meeting to offer guidance and to ensure course suitability. Applicants will also be advised on course costs and registration details.
Applicants should have, an aptitude for creativity and design, a keen interest in the various media formats and basic computing skills.
Fees
There are no tuition fees for EU students. At course commencement, students are required to pay for books, a College registration fee and where applicable professional body registration fees.
