The Advanced Web Design course is a modular award of the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC). FETAC is a Department of Education and Science sponsored examining body with special responsibility for development, certification and quality assured standards in Further Education.
This course comprises two Level 6 Awards in the National Qualifications Framework (Web Authoring and Web Hosting & Maintenance) and can be added to over time, enabling the learner to achieve a full award in Interactive Media or Computer Applications.
Studying over twenty five weeks, learners are exposed to the theoretical framework and practical skills required to plan, implement and design a website. You will work with industry standard technologies including XHTML, JavaScript, Flash, Fireworks and Dreamweaver. You will also learn to register and maintain websites on internet servers.
Attendance
Commencing 20 September 2010, students attend Monday evenings 6:30pm-9:30pm for twenty five weeks.
Prerequisites
Students taking the Advanced Web Design course are required to have good computer skills and a good appreciation of web technologies. Ideally, candidates will have first completed the Introductory Web Authoring course at Senior College Dun Laoghaire or an equivalent qualification.
Assessment
Students construct, design, upload and maintain websites under the supervision of the tutor. Project time is incorporated into the class contact hours, though you are advised that additional work outside of scheduled classes is beneficial.
Progression
On completion of this course, students may wish to further their knowledge and training by taking the Web Programming night course at SCD. The College also offers a comprehensive day course in Interactive Multimedia.

€350 inclusive of assessment
